          • OSG Students Visited by Science City Player Alex Herrera

          • On June 16 2026, a special guest visited our English lesson. It was Alex Herrera. You don’t know who he is? He is a basketball player for Science City Jena and is originally from Colorado in the United States. The Friday before his visit, my classmates and I thought of questions we could ask him. Since we had just been learning about the United States in our English lessons, we had many questions about his school life, sports culture and basketball, stereotypes and culture shocks and his personal life too. When Alex visited our class on the 16th of June, we were very excited and grateful that Ms Strohdach had invited him.In the Q&A session, we began asking our questions and learned a lot about him, his time in Germany, and his experiences as an American living here. For example, we found out that Bratkartoffeln is his favorite German food. We also talked about his school life and, later, about sports culture. This was the topic we discussed the most, which isn’t surprising since basketball is his passion. We also learned that he really enjoys playing in Germany and that he is still a little nervous before a game, even though he has been a professional basketball player for such a long time.Overall, our Q&A session with Alex was a great experience because we were able to ask him all the questions and stepped out of our comfort zone by speaking English.Thank you for your visit, Alex! We wish you all the best for the next BBL season!
